How to add a book and save reading progress

What this is for

The book list keeps titles you want to read, are reading and have finished in order. Progress comes from completing the tasks in the reading plan, which you can name as chapters or chosen parts of the book.

How to get there

Pick Leisure → Books (/books).

Step by step

  1. Pick New Book, enter Title and optionally Author.
  2. Set Status, optionally Started and Finished, then pick Add book.
  3. Open the book card. In Reading plan pick Add chapter.
  4. Enter Task (e.g. Read chapters 1-2); optionally set Date (optional) and pick Add.
  5. After reading, mark the task as done in the book details. Reading progress shows the number of completed tasks and their percentage.
  6. When you finish the book, pick Finish book. It sets Finished and fills the finish date with today's date if it was empty so far.

Fields and options

Field or action Meaning
Title Required title.
Author Optional author, up to 200 characters.
Status To read, Reading, Finished.
Started, Finished Dates when you started and finished the book.
Reading plan Named reading tasks with optional dates.
Reading progress Rounded percentage of completed, linked planner tasks among all reading tasks.
Edit Changing the book's data.

Common mistakes / pitfalls

  • The book form has no fields for page count, rating or notes. You can store a page range in the task name, but the app does not convert it into progress.
  • The Finished date cannot be earlier than Started. Clearing a book's saved dates is not supported by its save.
  • Finish book does not mark all tasks as done.
  • Marking a task as done creates a linked planner task if one does not exist yet; this does not require a date on the reading task.
  • If fetching the counters fails, the list may show zero progress. Check the details and the error message before treating the result as nothing done.

Dating and moving tasks is described in planning in the library.
