Where to Start

LOS (Life Operating System) is an app for planning your time and organizing everyday affairs. It brings tasks, goals, projects, habits, and other areas of life together in one place.

This guide explains where the app's most important features are located. User interface element names are kept in English so that they are easy to find on the screen.

Documentation

The guide covers all sections of the app. Links to the most important descriptions:

Where to Start

At the top of Today, the day-parts bar shows the current time, the current part, and the time until the next one. The settings icon next to the bar opens Settings → Planning → Parts of the day. There you can set from 2 to 12 custom parts: their names, colors, and start times. Each part lasts until the start of the next one, including across midnight. Changes are confirmed with Save day parts; Restore defaults restores the default split in the form, which also needs to be saved. Times use the time zone set in LOS. This split is independent of the work and sleep hours settings.

The detailed configuration of the first screen is described in the First steps with LOS guide.

On first use, it is worth doing the following:

  1. Open Settings and set the correct time zone and start of the week.
  2. In the Modules & Today section, leave only the modules you want to use in the menu.
  3. Add your first tasks in the Tasks view.
  4. Plan tasks in the Weekly Planner.
  5. Use the Today view to focus on the current day.

App Layout

After logging in, the screen is divided into three main areas:

  1. Side menu on the left — used to switch between modules. On a smaller screen you can open it with the menu icon in the top left corner.
  2. Top bar — shows the year, week number, and progress of the plan. It also contains shortcuts to messages, notifications, and the user menu.
  3. Main part of the screen — displays the currently selected page and the actions available on it.

Clicking the avatar or level number in the top right corner opens the account menu, from which you can go to settings or log out.

Planning and Tasks

Today

The current day view. It shows today's tasks, progress, and the most important items that need attention. It is the best place to start the day.

The Customize Today button in the header lets you enable and hide panels and change their order with arrows. The settings are saved to your account. Hiding a panel does not delete data. Panels without data are also visible in the list; they will appear in the view once they have content. A note must first be added and enabled in Settings. Restore default panels restores the default layout of sections, keeping the separate settings of tiles, timers, and Quick track shortcuts.

Dashboard

A summary of your current situation: tasks, plan, and progress presented as shortcuts and charts. A description of the editing options is in the article Dashboard customization.

Planning

The Planning group contains several ways of working with the plan:

View What it is for
Day A detailed plan of a single day in an hourly layout.
Weekly Planner Planning the whole week; moving and arranging tasks on a timeline.
Monthly Planner Review and planning in a monthly layout.
Yearly Planner A review of workload and the most important deadlines on a yearly scale.
Tasks A task list, including tasks not yet assigned to a specific date.

If there are overdue tasks, a separate Overdue item with their count will appear in the menu.

The Basic Way of Working

The simplest workflow looks as follows:

  1. Create a task in Tasks or directly in the planner.
  2. Give it a name, duration, priority, and — if needed — a link to a project or a goal.
  3. Place the task on the right day and time.
  4. Once done, mark the task as completed.

Completed tasks affect statistics, summaries, and the level shown next to your avatar.

Goals and Projects

The Goals & Projects group organizes larger undertakings:

View What it is for
Goals Long-term goals and the tasks that lead to them.
Projects Projects, their description, status, hierarchy, and task list.
Projects Planner Projects shown on a timeline.

A task can be part of a larger goal or project and at the same time be visible in the regular planner. This keeps the day plan connected to long-term intentions.

Details: Project statuses and Task schedule in Projects Planner.

The Settings page provides all sections without an advanced-settings toggle:

  • Account & profile — account data, avatar, bio, privacy, password, and account deletion,
  • Planning — time zone, start of the week, default tasks, days off, work and sleep hours, and parts of the day,
  • Organization — project, habit, and cleaning categories, and task names,
  • Modules & Today — module visibility, the Today note, and quotes,
  • Appearance — accent color and task color palette,

Changed settings are confirmed with the Save changes button for the current section. Cancel restores the saved values. When leaving a section with unsaved changes, the app will ask you to discard them or return to editing. Import, export, quote editing, and managing project and habit categories have separate operations. The built-in AI provider configuration and chat have been removed; access to AI happens through MCP.

Data backup

Before importing or making a large data change, run an export and keep the backup file in a safe place. Details: Import and export data.
